Anna started limping on her left rear leg approximately 3 months ago. Linda Howell, Anna's owner, took Anna to her veterinarian, Dr. Ross Valdez. Radiographs Showed a hairline fracture near the femoral head, affecting the growth plate of the leg. A femoral head ostectomy (the removal of the femoral head) was recommended to correct the problem. An FHO is a surgery which requires an extended healing period with restrained activity and occasionally physical therapy.

Linda Howell, Anna's owner, purchased a BioMat June 6, 2006, and says that she regularly has to fight with Anna and Ivan (another dog in the household) to lay on it. Anna regularly spends 8-10 hours per day on the BioMat. When Linda took Anna in on the day of her surgery, Dr. Valdez noticed that Anna was not limping as she had been  previously. He examined her further, and took more radiographs, and determined that Anna's hairline fracture had healed enough to cancel the FHO surgery. Linda and Anna avoided the surgery all together, and now Linda reports that Anna is doing very well. Anna limps occasionally, but on the whole seems to have recovered quite well from what could have been a debilitating injury.

● I thank you very much for the use of the Bio- Mat. As you know, with the recent spinal surgery, I have been very uncomfortable and will be so for several weeks. I was feeding my horsesfrom a plastic bag full of hay, when one of them freaked out and as fast as lightening, stomped with amazing accuracy and very deliberately on my foot! Fortunately I at least had gym shoes on, but the throbbing started instantly. I think my horse thought the rustling plastic bag was a snake!
